Poetic Places App Launch
Date and time
Location
The British Library Conference Centre
Chaucer Room 96 Euston Rd London NW1 2DB United KingdomDescription
Poetic Places is a CreativeWorks London funded collaborative project between the British Library and TIME/IMAGE that aspires to give a renewed sense of place, to bring together written works, images and sounds to mean more than they do alone, and to bring literature into people’s everyday life in unexpected moments.
Soon to be released as a free mobile app for iOS and Android, Poetic Places will allow users to encounter poems and literature in the locations described, along with evocative audiovisual materials drawn from archive collections.
To celebrate the launch of the app, the British Library is hosting a half-day event around poetic places and the technologies that allow us to connect with them.
There will be talks from:
- Sarah Cole, Creative-Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Poetic Places, http://www.poeticplaces.uk/
- Jocelyn Dodd, Talking Statues, http://www.talkingstatues.co.uk/
- Andy Ryan, CityRead London, http://www.cityread.london/about/
- Dr Giasemi Vavoula, Affective Digital Histories, http://affectivedigitalhistories.org.uk/
- Maya Chowdhry, Tales from Towpath, http://talesfromthetowpath.net/
- Dr David Cooper, Manchester Metropolitan University, on literary geographies
Afternoon tea will be provided.
After the talks there will be a short walk where you’re invited to try out the Poetic Places app for yourself; you will need to install the app on your own device to enjoy this fully, so please bring an iOS or Android device.
